I did one more speed run doing the chain/not pulling up the paintings and got the wife loop, so the items plus those two and you'll get it. Ignore those!įorgot to mention, I did use the crank, not hte chain, and pulled up the paintings, but did not jump in. Another note, I think most people mess the endings up by picking up neutral pieces, like the muzzle, collar, alcohol, glasses, etc. I followed the painting door, only picked up the paintbrushes and easel, chose the other painting door over the beam of light, didn't get killed. Don't think selfish in the way that you ignore your wife and child only, but rather, focus on his passion, painting. Oh, and I went ahead and tried to accomplish the selfish ending to see what you are crying about. If you think only 900 hours in a almost 5 year old game is a lot, then sheesh. Worked for me, hope it works for you.Ĭute, you had to check my profile so you could try to judge me. Also, if you already have all the collectibles in the game, just go to those spots like the video shows and just look at the areas where they were. Trying to avoid having to exit to the menu but all ending up with the wife ending. You should also avoid death and you should follow the rats by collecting their. Avoid all mirrors, chairs and most of all her ghost that appears in episode four and five. Trust me, after the first successful attempt, I tried many different tweaks to this particular path. In order to get this ending you must collect all the whispered words that are related to the passion of the character while avoiding items related to his wife. I don't know why it's designed this way but that's what you have to do. The really sad part about this is the fact that you absolutely have to exit to menu twice in order to make the ending trigger. If you follow this video exactly then the ending should unlock. I've recreated this scenario twice now and I've received the ending both times.Ĭredit goes to Beth Bear for the video (keep in mind this is for the Xbox One version of the game but should work with all versions): However, I've finally found (what I believe anyway), is the foolproof way of obtaining the Self-Portrait ending. I've definitely done my fair share of criticizing the different ways to trigger the two special endings in this game. I know that talking of wasted hours with someone with 960 hours on Skyrim is pointless, but, still, that's what it is and what pisses me off.īetter watch out. If you already own Layers of Fear, Inheritance is a nice low $4.99 add-on through Steam, or if you’re new to it, you can pick up the set for $22.99, shaving a couple dollars off of the price of each bought separately.Originally posted by Lucathegreat:Bought it.īut since no one understood how to get them because the requirements are ridiculous and/or bugged as even by doing exactly what others did it's still the same ending over and over again, it's a wasted hour every time. Filling in the entire tale is still a puzzle, but completing each of these gives some great insight into the primary title’s own workings. It’s a touch on the short side, but makes up for this a bit by presenting three possible endings. Putting it simply, if you enjoyed Layers of Fear and wanted more, Inheritance is exactly what you’re hoping for. Several all-new pieces of the story also play in, of course, especially focused around the painter’s relationship with his daughter, and his desire to see her flourish as an artist in her own right. A fresh perspective does a lot to peel away at the clearly-distorted view of events presented from the painter’s own mind, and there’s quite a bit of exposition that dives into things you’ve already seen. For those familiar with Layers of Fear, Inheritance follows well behind the primary story.
